Gearing Up For The Games

I still like the Olympic Games. Sure they’re commercialized, over hyped, politicized and many other things, but I think at the heart its still about the sports. What’s also nice is the games give me a chance to watch sports I only care about once every 4 years. Track and field is pretty darn nifty, but only so often. Same thing with swimming, gymnastics, volleyball, and even rhythmic gymnastics.
Anyway- here’s a brief primer of my take.

…and last but not least, as I say every four years… Women’s beach volleyball uniforms are necessary-

VERY necessary.

OK, So I Lied (..and that will happen more times than not).

Well I didn't lay about on the couch all day and watch le Tour, but instead I actually did go for a ride. Nothing much, just a little 30 mile jaunt through Crab Orchard to near Little Grassy. Haven't been able to hop in the saddle for a while due to my eye infection, but hoping for another nice ride tomorrow. We'll see.
Anyhoo, I took a pic near one of the creeks (or as we say in Southern Illinois, creak).

Once Again, Someone Who I Thought Was Already Dead, Has Died

Jessie Helms was a horrible, horrible man. Make no mistakes about it. Sure he dabbled in having a heart, but in summation the only really good he did was inspire Dana Carvey to do a really funny impression of him. Anyway he’s dead at the age of 83.
Helms is perhaps best known for the "Hands" campaign ad televised during his 1992 race against Harvey Gantt, an African-American and former mayor of Charlotte. The TV spot show a pair of white hands crumpling a piece of paper that indicated the man's job had gone to a person of color.

He staked out his position on race and civil rights early in his career, when five-minute "Viewpoint" TV editorials made him well known throughout eastern North Carolina. In his book "Righteous Warrior: Jesse Helms and the Rise of Modern Conservatism," University of Florida history professor William Link said Helms used "Viewpoint" as a soapbox against what Helms considered as an intrusive federal government bent on racial equality. Helms, Link wrote, considered the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to be a blow to states' rights.

So no whining about him- got it! Instead, if you really want to honor a true, American hero, well then honor Larry Harmon who passed at 83.

Get To Know Me!

So le Tour starts tomorrow (strangely enough, instead of riding I'll be laying about on the couch) and per usual, I have a prediction-
This years winner= Cadel Evans of Australia. No American winner this year, Levi and the Astana team won't be there (don't get me started) but we have a few time trial specialists that may take a few stages.

Now I know no one reading this is the slightest bit interested so please enjoy not watching it.

Go On Now, Get Yo' Nerd On

Enjoy!
